If there is one thing that people all over the globe no matter what their race, skin color, gender identity, nationality, or location is, there is one thing that all of them needs, sleep. Sleep is extremely important in keeping a person healthy and alert. Unfortunately, there may be times wherein problems regarding it arise.
Sleep is perhaps one of the best things in the world. It is where you can truly take a break from work, school or whatever you have been doing all day. While you’re in dreamland, you practically have to worry about anything. Everyone needs and probably loves sleep. It doesn’t matter how busy you are or how high your position is in your job, you still need sleep.
Health Problems with Sleeping Problems
A lot of people tend to take advantage of the discoveries that can help people cheat their way out of sleeping like drinking coffee or energy drinks. This is a normal thing to do since everyone has practically had an all-nighter at least once in their lives. However, like all things this should be done in moderation. Sleep deprivation also bring adverse effects to one’s health. Here are some of them:
Increased anxiety – If you have ever experienced what it is like to have an all-nighter and a presentation the day after it, you definitely must have felt being jittery and nervous. If you think that you’ll be less anxious about your presentation because you stayed up all night making sure your work is perfect, then you’re wrong. Sleep deprivation increases your anxiety.
Decreased sharpness – If you have ever stayed up to prepare for work or an exam, then you’re only doing your body a burden. Instead of the results you wanted, you’ll probably have the opposite results because lack of sleep causes you to be less aware of your surroundings and your mind to be less sharp.
How to treat it
Decrease intake of caffeine – Maybe you should put down your third cup of coffee if you want to improve your sleeping habits. More caffeine will only worsen your situation. Try drinking tea instead
Use sleeping patches – It might not seem like it but sleep patches really work. Give yourself a chance of having a peaceful and uneventful night of sleep by wearing one of these.
Sleep early to adjust your body clock – There are chances that your body has been attuned to how late or early you sleep and thus it will also adjust to that when it’s waking up. Try sleeping earlier to adjust or normalize your body clock if it’s used to you sleeping at midnight or at 1 am or later.
